26 May 201625 March 2021 By Joe Mander

The Essex Police Museum covers the history of the police force prior to it’s establishment in 1840 up till the present day. With dozens of police artefacts ranging from motorbikes to uniforms and murder weapons, the museum covers all aspects of the extensive history of Essex Police. Over 25,000 items are kept at the force headquarters in Chelmsford with many police records kept behind the scenes.

The museum accommodates for school trips and children wishing to visit with a Victorian cell in the museum, a charge book from 1914, real police uniforms to try on and the opportunity to take your finger prints and solve crimes at their mock crime scene. The museum is a registered charity with the aim of preserving the history of Essex Police.
